Short film – Soundscape
Reflection on the Soundscape Creation Workshops.
Short film presented at CCCB – 2025
Over the course of 2025, the project engaged neighbors, artists, schools, and institutions in a series of participatory workshops aimed at drawing and mapping the city’s soundscape. From the Les Fontetes neighborhood in Cerdanyola del Vallès – an emblematic case of acoustic saturation – to central spaces such as Plaça de les Glòries, Barcelona, participants documented how they perceive their sonic environment through drawing.
The collaboration with Urban Sketchers Barcelona and CCCB brought together more than 500 sketches created by over a hundred participants of all ages, including children from seven schools in Barcelona and the metropolitan area. These drawings captured everyday sounds – from journeys to school and playground noise to the interior acoustics of museums – revealing the hidden sonic layers of the city.
The final stage of the project culminated during the Architecture Weeks 2025 with a large public event. All collected drawings were assembled into a monumental physical and digital soundscape map of Barcelona, an open resource for researchers, architects, and the general public. A documentary film, produced throughout the process, was also presented, offering both a poetic and critical perspective on how we experience noise in our cities.
Rather than presenting noise pollution only as a problem, the project sought to create an optimistic and constructive vision of the future city, one where community voices and creative practices play a central role in shaping healthier urban environments.
