Contact grounds
The project is developing in Colombia, Medellín and Brasil, São Paulo, 2024 – Now
“Contact Grounds” is an artistic and urban project aimed at raisingawareness about the division of society along religious, ethnic, and social lines in urban environments. The project is based on principles of cooperation between local residents and participating associations in the Moravia neighborhood of Medellín, Colombia, as well as the CAMARAC team.
The issue in this area lies in the border between the urban park under construction and the wealthy neighborhood, which is displacing poorer communities through demolitions without providing alternatives. Additionally, there is strong tensionbetween the wealthy and poor neighborhoods. The project aims tobring the installation to the most affected communities, placingcitizens at the center of the engine for change.
It is a research project that will culminate in a real urbanexperiment. The project’s working groups, in cooperation with local residents and associations, will conduct research on local traditions and cultural events on both sides of the division. The outcome of this research will be actionable steps: using the knowledge gained, wewill implement tangible “small changes” rooted in local traditions and cultural characteristics. By integrating these small changes, we aim to initiate largertransformations. Examples of these small changes include organizing community dinners, temporary markets, mini music or film festivals, and similar initiatives.
